Volkswagen’s Camper Conversion Kit Adds Awning and Rooftop Tent to Amarok
The Amarok stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the best of the best in the local bakkie segment. The recently unveiled camper conversion kit enhances the Amarok’s overlanding ability and competence.

The new Camper conversion kit was displayed at the 2023 Caravan Salon trade fair in Düsseldorf and utilises an all-wheel-drive PanAmericana model as the basis of the display vehicle. Powered by a 3,0-litre V6 TDi producing an output of 177 kW/ 600 N.m, the engine has to deal with the added weight of the kit’s additions.

The altered PanAmericana features a modified suspension system to improve its off-road capability. Aside from an adjusted suspension system, the burly double cab retains the vanilla variant’s powertrain, which includes components such as the rear differential lock.
The most notable additions introduced by the camper kit include an AluCab hardtop, a rooftop tent, BF Goodrich AT tyres, and a 270-degree awning. Aiding its exploratory ambitions include a slew of lighting components from the LED lighting on the roof alongside the IQ. Light LED matrix headlights and LED taillights. The interior utilises 12-inch touchscreen leather-wrapped seats and a cockpit adorned in leather.

It’s unlikely that the modified Amarok will be sold locally. However, in Germany, this Amarok offshoot will join the PanAmerican subspecies and will be offered for roughly R1,3 million! The Aventura, which serves as the local range’s range-topper, is accompanied by an R1,1 million asking price.
