The double-cab-only T-Series JAC bakkie is offered in four variations, which are all founded on the same powertrain and chassis. The JAC T9 range consists of the following models:

  • T9 2.0L CTi 4×2 Lux: R529 900
  • T9 2.0L CTi 4×2 Super Lux: R579 900
  • T9 2.0L CTi 4×4 Lux: R599 900
  • T9 2.0L CTi 4×4 Super Lux: R649 900

The JAC T9, built on the firm’s third-generation LCV platform, has a similar form factor as Ford’s Ranger, with the difference in size being only a few millimetres. The T9 is 5 330 mm long, 1 965 mm wide, 1 920 mm tall and sits on a 3 110mm long wheelbase. Its ride height and 210 mm ground clearance allow for an approach and departure angle of 27⁰ and 23⁰, respectively.

JAC says its standoffish double cab is capable of carrying a payload of up to 1 000 kg and features a braked towing capacity equal to that of the Toyota Hilux (3 500 kg). Additionally, JAC coats the T9’s load bed with an anti-scratch and corrosion-resistant lining. Motivating the T9 is a 2,0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine producing 125 kW @ 3 600 r/min and 410 N.m from 1 500 r/min. Paired with the diesel powerplant is a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, which serves as the middleman between the engine and the rear wheels or all four wheels, depending on the derivative. Supporting the T-Series bakkie is an independent double-wishbone suspension system with coil springs tucked behind two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels.
