Last year, the automaker bid farewell to its 3.8-litre V8 engine, signalling a strategic move toward electrification. Initially slated for a 2025 launch, rumours about a delay surfaced late last year, and it appears those speculations were accurate. The upcoming seventh-generation Quattroporte sedan, set to be manufactured at Stellantis’s Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy, will be a smaller, more opulent, and battery-powered successor to both the current V8 Maserati Quattroporte and the smaller Maserati Ghibli.

Ahead of the Quattroporte’s electrified debut, Maserati is set to introduce the Maserati MC20 Folgore in the upcoming year, followed by the Maserati Levante Folgore in 2027. The impending arrival of the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore in the coming months adds to the brand’s electrified lineup.

The next-generation Quattroporte Folgore signifies a significant step as it will be the first Maserati offered exclusively without a combustion option. This move aligns with Maserati’s strategic push to abandon combustion power entirely by 2030, a cornerstone of the broader ‘Stellantis Dare Forward 2030’ plan unveiled in March 2022.

The Quattroporte nameplate holds a storied history within the realm of luxury sedans. Originating in the early 1960s, Maserati introduced the Quattroporte as a groundbreaking four-door sports sedan. The name itself, translating to “four doors” in Italian, encapsulated the essence of this innovative model. Over the decades, the Quattroporte has consistently represented a harmonious blend of performance, elegance, and cutting-edge design.

As Maserati now looks toward the future with the announcement of the Quattroporte EV in 2028, the nameplate continues its legacy of adaptation and innovation. The transition to an electric variant underscores the brand’s dedication to staying at the forefront of automotive technology while preserving the essence of the Quattroporte’s distinguished heritage.
