“Renault 5 E-Tech electric is a car unlike any other. Its release coincides with a major shift by millions of Europeans towards a new mobility which is electric, connected, and sustainable. It also triggered the transformation of Renault Group into a next-generation automotive company.” – Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group.

“Retrofuturistic” is the term Renault has used to describe the styling of the Renault 5 E-Tech. The Renault 5 E-tech is distinguished, by way of several exterior design elements, such as the headlights with flared tips, vertical taillights, sculpted wings, a coloured roof trim, a bonnet with vents and bespoke wheels.

The all-electric Renault 5 E-Tech is founded on the AmpR Small platform, which is a new Ampere platform intended to underpin B-segment electric vehicles. The benefit of relying on the AmpR Small platform is its flat floor, 2.54-metre wheelbase, 326-litre boot space, lower centre of gravity and a lower overall weight below 1 500 kg.

Although based on the Megane E-Tech and Scenic E-Tech models, the Renault 5 E-Tech utilises a smaller electric motor leveraging Renault’s wound rotor synchronous technology. The motor is capable of three power outputs: 110 kW, 90 kW, and 70 kW. The Renault 5 E-Tech features an 11 kW AC charger, an 80 or 100 kW DC charger and a 52 kWh battery. This culminates in a driving range of up to 400 km and allows for a towing capacity of up to 500 kg.

A noteworthy aspect of the new Renault 5 is the AC bidirectional charging compatibility that could allow the vehicle to feed carbon-free electricity back into the electrical grid via a third-party service.
