“Last year, we confirmed the toughness and durability of the all-new Triton in the gruelling conditions of AXCR 2023. The rally also reaffirmed that the Triton’s strengths lie in its sporty handling and its excellent road handling on rough terrain. This year will be our second year competing with the new-gen Triton, and we have made the Triton rally car more powerful and enhanced its driving performance by widening the tread further so that we can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with competitors’ vehicles with high-displacement engines.” – Hiroshi Masuoka, team director of Team Mitsubishi Ralliart.

The AXCR 2024 is the region’s largest cross-country rally and spans approximately 2 000 km, 1 000 km comprising special stages. This year marks the 29th running of the Asia Cross Country Rally event and is expected to be the most challenging one yet.

The T1 prototype employed for this running of the AXCR is based on the sixth-generation Triton model. At its core, the rally-ready Triton employs a 2.4-litre turbodiesel four-cylinder engine capable of outputting 150 kW and 470 N.m. Accompanying the turbodiesel powerplant is a six-speed manual transmission doling out power to all four corners via Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system. Supporting this specific Triton is a revised suspension system, now featuring twin dampers at each wheel, and the track has also increased compared to the regular sixth-generation Triton.

Aside from its bright red and black Ralliart livery, the AXCR Triton features a snorkel and 17-inch wheel wrapped in rugged rubber. Below the livery are a handful of carbon fibre components, such as the bonnet, doors and cargo bed. As you’d expect, the interior has been stripped down to the bare necessities.
