Let’s rewind to 2020 when GWM first introduced the P-Series in South Africa. It quickly gained popularity for its competitive pricing and feature set. Now, with the facelift in China, the P-Series boasts a more premium interior with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a massive 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a wireless phone charger, and improved sound insulation. GWM even threw in a built-in dash cam for good measure.

The new engine steals the show. This 2.4-litre turbo-diesel produces a healthy 135 kW and 480 N.m, offering more grunt for tackling tough jobs or towing heavy loads (up to 3 000 kg, matching the 2.0-litre option). While the South African availability of this engine remains unconfirmed, it hints at GWM’s commitment to providing powerful and practical options for local consumers.

GWM’s focus on delivering feature-rich vehicles at competitive prices has struck a chord with South African bakkie buyers. The P-Series’ rapid rise in popularity is a clear sign of this successful strategy. Now, with the significant upgrades showcased in China, GWM is poised to further solidify its dominance in the South African market.

The most enticing addition is undoubtedly the new 2.4-litre turbo-diesel engine. This powerhouse promises a significant increase in power and torque compared to the existing 2.0-litre option, making the bakkie even more capable of handling tough jobs and towing heavy loads. This move perfectly aligns with GWM’s strategy of providing compelling value-for-money alternatives in South Africa, offering customers a powerful and practical bakkie without breaking the bank.

GWM has yet to confirm if the newcomer will arrive on South African shores.
