This first AMG iteration of the current S-Class, locally introduced in 2021, boasts subtle design tweaks that enhance its aggressiveness. The signature AMG grille with vertical slats flanks a redesigned bumper featuring larger air intakes. Completing the imposing look are 21-inch wheels.

But true brilliance lies beneath the sedan exterior. The S63 E Performance pairs a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine with a rear-mounted 140 kW electric motor. This formidable alliance is further bolstered by a 13.1 kWh battery pack from Affalterbach and the proven 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system.

The combined output is a staggering 590 kW and 1 430 N.m of torque, propelling the beast from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.3 seconds. The electronically limited top speed is 250 km/h, with an optional upgrade to 290 km/h. These figures not only crown the S63 E Performance as the most powerful S-Class ever but position it as one of Mercedes’ most potent creations.

Complementing the powertrain is the AMG RIDE Control suspension system. This air spring and adaptive damper setup can lower the ride height at high speeds for enhanced stability. Additionally, anti-roll bars and rear-wheel steering contribute to precise handling. When it’s time to stop, the massive 15.7-inch front brakes with six-piston callipers and 15-inch rear brakes with single-piston callipers complete the job.

As with other AMG hybrids, the S63 E Performance offers seven dynamic driving modes: Electric, Comfort, Battery Hold, Sport, Sport+, Slippery, and Individual. Drivers can tailor these modes to their preferences, maximizing driving enjoyment in any situation.

Owning the pinnacle of S-Class performance comes at a price. The base price for the Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance starts at R4 492 190. Selecting the enticing 5-year/100,000 km maintenance plan bumps the price to R4 742 190.
