This follows a 17-year run that saw the supercar establish itself as a legend, thrilling drivers with its potent engine, sharp handling, and surprisingly practical technology. The GT-R name carries a rich history, dating back to 1969 when it first appeared on the Nissan Skyline. The R35, unveiled in 2007, marked a significant departure. Unlike its predecessors, it wasn’t just a Japan-only affair, finding eager buyers in Europe and North America as well.

Part of the R35’s appeal was its hand-built twin-turbo V6 engine that offered supercar levels of power at a more attainable price tag. It was also packed with cutting-edge tech, featuring a Formula 1-inspired dual-clutch transmission and an advanced all-wheel-drive system for superior handling. While the US market is seeing the R35 sunset, production for Nissan’s home market is expected to continue until August 2025. These final 2025 model-year vehicles will mark the true end of the R35’s reign.

To commemorate this occasion, Nissan is releasing a pair of special editions – the Skyline edition and the T-spec Takumi edition. Both stay true to the GT-R’s character with the proven VR38 twin-turbo V6 engine, pumping out 421 kW and 467 of power and 633 N.m of torque through a six-speed automatic transmission, sending power to all four corners. The T-spec Takumi edition adds a touch of exclusivity with a gold VIN plate and a special badge on the engine itself.

The Takumi Edition also comes with all the upgrades found on the regular GT-R T-spec, including carbon-ceramic brakes, gold-painted Rays forged 20-inch wheels and wider front fenders.

Most noticeably, the Takumi Edition wears a mesmerizing paint colour called Midnight Purple. Its interior is equally unique with its Mori Green colour scheme seen on the seats and other surfaces. The 2024 Nissan GT-R Skyline Edition will arrive with the iconic paint job called Bayside Blue. As the company points out, that colour was originally retired after the R34 generation. However, it would return with the 50th Anniversary Edition package.
