This October, Oracle Red Bull Racing’s RB7 will bring the scream of Formula One to Katherine Street in Sandton City. British Formula 1 legend David Coulthard will lead the exhilarating Showrun, giving South African fans a taste of F1 excitement.

The RB7, one of the most dominant machines in F1 history, secured 18 of 19 poles and 12 race victories in the 2011 season, contributing to Oracle Red Bull Racing’s second Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship double. This spectacular 2.4-litre V8 powered single seater has now been rebirthed as a crowdpleaser courtesy of its sharp looks and visceral sound.

Oracle Red Bull Racing has a history of bringing F1 thrills to global cities like Santiago, Hanoi, Tokyo, Guadalajara, and even previously Cape Town too. In 2024, the team will return to South Africa to captivate even more fans. David Coulthard, no stranger to South Africa, expressed his excitement about the event. “I haven’t been to South Africa since we were in Cape Town in 2019, so I’m delighted we’re bringing Formula One back to Johannesburg,” he said.

Coulthard, who moved from McLaren to Red Bull Racing in 2005, became the highest-scoring British driver of all time with 535 race points, surpassing Nigel Mansell’s then-record of 482 points. He retired in 2008 but remains a fan favourite and a prominent figure in the F1 community. With Coulthard driving the 2011 championship-winning RB7, spectators can expect an electrifying afternoon as he tears up and down the iconic city streets.

“I’ll be driving a very special F1 car, demonstrating the power, energy, and excitement of what Grand Prix can bring. The RB7 churns out 750 horsepower and can push up to 18,000 RPMs.” – Coulthard.

In addition to Coulthard’s thrilling performance, the Showrun will feature world-class acts including German drifter Elias Hountondji—one half of the renowned ‘Red Bull Driftbrothers’ and a trained aerospace engineer—and motorbike stunt rider Arūnas ‘Aras’ Gibieža. Fans can also look forward to a few special surprises throughout the event.

The www.redbull.com/showrun. is scheduled for Sunday, October 6, and promises to offer fans an unforgettable opportunity to experience Formula 1 up close in a festive, family-friendly environment. CAR Magazine, in partnership with Red Bull will be doing a ticket giveaway closer to the time, but in the interim, find your tickets at the aforementioned website.
