Mercedes-AMG G63 Grand Edition Headed to SA — We Have Pricing!

The Mercedes-AMG G63 Grand Edition has been confirmed for South Africa, with only 20 (of the 1 000 units globally) examples heading to local shores. Here’s how much you can expect to pay for this limited-edition G.

Limited to only 1 000 units globally, 20 of which are destined for South Africa, Mercedes-Benz SA has announced the G63 Grand Edition is headed to SA. Here’s what you can expect, including pricing and spec, of this special-edition G-Class.

“The Mercedes-AMG G63 is now also undoubtedly regarded as an automotive icon and demonstrates its unique position among performance … [The] Grand Edition is a testament to the G-Class and ushers in a new era of G, which will be revealed in the coming months,” said Alexandra Boavida, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz SA.

Mercedes-AMG G63 Grand Edition Price in South Africa

Priced at R5 474 512, the G63 Grand Edition will set you back R1 043 438 more than the standard (if there is such a thing) G63. Included in the asking price is a maintenance plan spanning five years or 100 000 km, and a two-year/unlimited km warranty.

So, what sets the G63 Grand Edition apart from the standard derivative? Well, for starters, the limited edition’s bodywork is finished in MANUFAKTUR night black magno. The dark colour scheme is contrasted by an array of gold-coloured items. The ‘Kalaharigold mago’ hue has been applied to the Mercedes star, Affalterbach emblem emblazoned on the bonnet, ‘AMG’ logo, front and rear bumper inlays, the spare-wheel cover’s surround, 22-inch alloy wheels, and side decals. The interior also features contrasting black-and-gold trim elements, such as gold-coloured stitching for the black Nappa leather pews.

As a reminder, the pinnacle G-Wagon employs the Affalterbach automaker’s familiar 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8. The petrol unit produces 430 kW and 850 N.m of torque, sent to all four corners via the firm’s nine-speed AMG Speedshift TCT automatic transmission. According to the company, these figures allow the G63 to dispatch the obligatory 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.5 seconds, before topping out at an electronically governed 220 km/h. However, the latter can be lifted by 20 km/h to 240 km/h when specifying the correct package.
