While Lotus has ventured into the electric SUV and sedan market with the Eletre and Emeya, this new teaser hints that the company is returning to its sports car roots—albeit in an electrified form. The Theory 1 could potentially be a concept previewing the upcoming Type 135 electric sports car, which is expected to debut in the coming years.

Lotus has used a series of three teaser videos to build anticipation, each titled to highlight a different theme—”Digital,” “Natural,” and “Analogue.” These three words spell out the brand’s “DNA,” signalling a connection between Lotus’ past and its future in the electric era.

The “Analogue” teaser, for example, begins by showing vintage Formula 1 cars before transitioning to a brief shot of the rear end of Theory 1. From this, we can see a slim LED taillight and an active spoiler, adding a touch of aerodynamics to its modern design.

The “Natural” video shifts focus to the car’s interior, specifically a rectangular yoke-style steering wheel that extends from the dashboard. Notably, the wheel includes paddle shifters and a compact screen in the centre, suggesting some unique functionality. The minimalist design hints at a driver-focused cabin, in line with Lotus’ sporting tradition.

In the final teaser, “Digital,” viewers get a closer look at the front fender, which appears to feature a distinctive illuminated screen. This could be more than just aesthetic flair, potentially showcasing advanced tech integration. The teaser also includes a brief shot of the word “regen” on a digital screen, likely pointing to the car’s regenerative braking system and confirming its electric powertrain.
