Compared to the first iteration, the box-fresh BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé has increased in length, with the new model measuring 4 546 mm nose to tail (up 20 mm). The height, too, has increased (up 25 mm to 1 445 mm). The width and wheelbase have remained the same at 1 800 mm and 2 670 mm, respectively.

Interestingly, BMW quotes different luggage capacities for the model line-up, with the 220 and 220d offering a claimed 360 litres of packing space, and the 218d and M235i derivatives’ boots capable of swallowing a claimed 430 litres.

As mentioned, the new 2 Series Gran Coupé is available in four flavours, with the model line-up comprising the 218d, 220d, 220, and M235i xDrive. Starting with the petrol-powered models, the 220 employs the BMW Group’s 1.5-litre turbo-triple, endowed with 115 kW and 240 N.m of torque. According to the company, the three-cylinder unit sips, on average, 5.2 L/100 km. The 220 completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in a claimed 7.9 seconds, before topping out at 230 km/h.

The M235i Gran Coupé’s 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot churns out 221 kW and 400 N.m, sent to all four corners via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. BMW claims the M Performance 2 Series Gran Coupé dispatches the 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.9 seconds. The top speed is rated at 250 km/h. The flagship 2 Series Gran Coupé has a claimed average fuel consumption figure of 7.5 L/100 km.

Moving on to the diesel derivatives, the 218d’s 2.0-litre, four-cylinder oil-burner produces 110 kW and 360 N.m for a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 226 km/h. BMW says this model sips 4.6 L/100 km on average. For the 220d, the turbo-four has been tuned to deliver 120 kW and 400 N.m. Thanks to the uprated power and torque outputs, the 220d is 0.4 seconds quicker to the three-figure marker from a standstill than its 218d sibling. In addition, this more powerful variant’s average fuel consumption is 0.4 L/100 km less. The top speed remains the same.

The 2 Series Gran Coupé’s market launch is scheduled to start in March 2025.
