Designed by Kia Design Centre America in California, these vehicles bring together capability, clever adaptability and a clear focus on sustainable travel. Dubbed the EV9 ADVNTR Concept SUV and the PV5 WKNDR Concept EV Van, these custom creations hint at a future where adventure vehicles are eco-friendly, versatile, and perfectly suited for nature-bound journeys.
SEMA, known for its dynamic showcase of concept cars and high-performance accessories, offers automakers an opportunity to display their latest innovations for automotive enthusiasts. This year, Kia’s contributions to the show stand out by embracing electric power with designs that blend functionality and form for off-the-grid explorations.
The EV9 ADVNTR Concept is Kia’s vision of an electric SUV which can go off of the beaten path. This all-electric, three-row SUV is tailored for serious off-road adventures, enhancing the rugged nature of the EV9 while keeping its modern EV identity intact. Reinforced with custom front and rear fascias, this version of the EV9 adopts a tougher, more distinctive appearance, supported by rocker panels designed to boost durability and strength.
A three-inch lift gives the EV9 ADVNTR added clearance, matched with rugged wheels and tyres to improve its capability on challenging terrain. Further adding to its adventure-ready build, the EV9 ADVNTR Concept features a custom roof rack. Built to handle a range of attachments, from luggage containers to roof-mounted tents, the rack transforms the SUV into a mobile base camp, ideal for travellers who crave the freedom of the open outdoors. In essence, this EV is designed to handle the wild while keeping occupants comfortable, bringing Kia’s approach to off-road travel to life.

While the EV9 ADVNTR Concept goes for off-road prowess, the PV5 WKNDR Concept takes flexibility and outdoor utility to new heights. Inspired by Kia’s recently introduced Purpose Beyond Vehicles (PBV) range, the PV5 WKNDR is crafted to serve as a highly adaptable lifestyle van. Designed with an adventurous edge, the PV5’s lifted body and off-road tyres make it equally comfortable on rugged paths and open highways. The van’s focus on modular functionality echoes Kia’s commitment to creating vehicles that adapt seamlessly to different lifestyles, offering plenty of space and a range of configurations for adventure seekers.
One of the standout features is the PV5’s “Gear Head” storage system, which provides a sheltered space for equipment outside the vehicle when stationary, maximising interior space without sacrificing storage. This clever solution allows travellers to access their gear effortlessly, while a pantry mode enables outdoor cooking with a view, making it perfect for nature lovers and campers alike. Solar panels add an extra layer of independence, alongside innovative hydro turbine wheels that can recharge the battery on the move. An onboard compressor also brings added convenience, handling tasks from adjusting tyre pressure for rough terrain to inflating air mattresses for nights spent under the stars.
Steven Center, Kia America’s COO and EVP, sums up the brand’s direction with these concepts: “Kia’s utility vehicles are known for their versatility and adaptability. With these concepts, we’re expanding on that legacy to create something even more capable.” SEMA has given Kia’s designers a platform to showcase not only what is possible but also how the brand’s vehicles could adapt to meet the needs of outdoor enthusiasts in a sustainable way.
