According to the brand with the four rings, the new Q5 Sportback’s bodywork is “sleeker” than its predecessor. The revised ‘Singleframe’ grille is flanked by redesigned headlamp clusters, replete with daytime-running lights. A light strip spans the tailgate. Two trim grades are on offer: exterior advanced and S line, with the SQ5 (seen here) sporting model-specific exterior design elements.
Underpinned by Audi’s Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture — the same platform on which the new A5, which we sampled on the international launch, and, of course, its Q5 SUV sibling is based — the Q5 Sportback was revealed with a duo of petrol engine options and a single oil-burner, all of which incorporating 48 V mild-hybrid tech for an additional boost of 25 kW and 230 N.m for short durations.

Starting with the diesel derivative, the 2.0 TDI unit churns out 150 kW and 400 N.m of torque, exclusively sent to all four corners via the Ingolstadt automaker’s seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Moving on to the petrol powertrains: producing 150 kW/340 N.m, the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol (2.0 TFSI) sends drive to the front axle as standard, though quattro all-wheel drive is available as an option. Spearheading the model line-up, the SQ5 Sportback quattro’s 3.0-litre V6 produces 270 kW (10 kW up on the outgoing model) and 550 N.m (up 50 N.m).
Stepping inside, an expansive dual-screen arrangement, comprising a 11.9-inch digital instrument binnacle and 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system, takes centre stage. A 10.9-inch front passenger display is available as an option. Audi claims a luggage capacity of up to 515 litres for the non-S-badged derivatives and 470 litres for the SQ5 Sportback.
