In the realm of luxury and sophistication, few brands do it quite like Range Rover. This past October, Land Rover’s luxury arm unveiled its Range Rover House, an invitation-only event designed to immerse guests in a curated blend of experiences that mirrors the brand’s modern luxury ethos. Set in a private villa at the foot of Table Mountain in Cape Town, Range Rover House provided an intimate setting to discover the latest creation by the automaker’s SV Bespoke division: the ultra-exclusive Range Rover SV Onyx Edition.
But First: Range Rover House
Situated in Bishops Court, one of the Mother City’s most affluent suburbs, the R160 million Range Rover House epitomises the British SUV’s commitment to refined luxury. This privately owned villa spans 2.5 acres of manicured gardens and calming water features, blending modern architecture with classic design elements – a definite delight for the artists at heart.
Upon arrival, guests were treated to more than a selection of Range Rover vehicles taken from Head Office’s media fleet. Instead, Range Rover House delivered a multisensory experience. The curation included a bespoke Range Rover SV Lounge, where guests explored the endless customisation options available through Range Rover’s SV Bespoke program. The Range Rover design masterclass allowed guests to see firsthand the artistry that goes into creating each vehicle, from sketching to final touches.
Adding to this exclusive setting was an array of activities that celebrated Africa’s rich heritage and natural beauty. Guests enjoyed champagne tastings and sampled water curated by South Africa’s soon-to-be-only water sommelier, Nico Pieterse, to highlight subtle differences in source and flavour. Award-winning chef Ryan Cole provided a culinary journey of six exquisite courses, while an African coffee barista experience celebrated the continent’s rich coffee culture. There was also a Chanel experience that explored the journey of fragrance blending, and soothing hand massages with onyx stones.
Africa’s Black Jewel
At the heart of Range Rover House’s grand unveiling stood the Range Rover SV Onyx Edition: a meticulously crafted SUV that embodies the deep, talismanic allure of Black Onyx. With only seven units produced exclusively for Africa, this model is as rare as it is opulent. Five of these masterpieces now reside in South Africa, while two are in Zimbabwe.
Inspired by the semi-precious Onyx stone, the Range Rover SV Onyx Edition boasts a unique aesthetic. Its bespoke black paint, Corinthian Bronze accents, and Anthracite finishes give it a mystique that’s hard to miss. The exterior, adorned with bronze script badging and distinctive 23-inch diamond-turned alloy wheels, is a striking testament to its attention to detail, says Range Rover.
Irene Kakooza, Brand Manager, JLR South Africa, said:
“The debut of the limited-edition Range Rover SV Onyx Edition is a demonstration of Range Rover’s unmatched ability to stretch the boundaries of luxury and opulence to meet the evolving needs of our most discerning clients. It represents a new pinnacle in the Range Rover collection. This milestone is rendered even more auspicious by the ability to share it with our loyal clients at the very first Range Rover House experience in South Africa, providing an exclusive inner-circle view of what makes Range Rover SV Bespoke so special.”
Inside, the Onyx Edition doesn’t shy away from grandeur. With Caraway and Ebony leather seats accented with contrast stitching and Onyx Edition embroidery, the cabin is designed to be an intimate sanctuary of comfort and luxury. Special touches, like scatter cushions and ‘1 of 7’ branded treadplates, add an extra layer of exclusivity to this already remarkable vehicle.
Beyond its stunning looks, the Range Rover SV Onyx Edition is a technical marvel, packed with conveniences like a gesture-powered tailgate, ClearSight interior mirror, and a four-zone climate control system. Safety and driver assistance features, such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and 3D surround cameras, form part of the Onyx Edition.
The Range Rover SV Onyx Edition is not merely a vehicle; it’s a statement – a tribute to the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship, exclusivity, and African heritage. With only seven examples across the continent, this model will be a rare sight, cherished by a select few who understand that Range Rover’s true allure lies not just in the drive, but in the lifestyle it represents.
The Africa-exclusive Range Rover SV Onyx Edition carries a retail price of R5 800 000.
