To celebrate the birthday of nine-time world motorcycle champion and current BMW M works driver Valentino Rossi, BMW has whipped the wraps off a new limited-edition M4 CS, the Edition VR46. Based on the CS-badged M4, the Edition VR46 (‘VR’ for ‘Valentino Rossi’ ‘and ‘46’ indicating Rossi’s 46th birthday) is available in Sport and Style trim. Another nod to Rossi’s 46th, only 46 examples of each variant will be built … and only 10 will make their way to South Africa in the third quarter of 2025.

Distinguishing the Edition VR46 Sport and Style derivatives apart from their Competition siblings is the adoption of such model-specific trim elements as bright-yellow accents for the kidney grille and forged M light-alloy wheels, as well as the brake callipers. The vibrant hue is carried over to the cabin.

As a reminder, the M4 CS employs a reworked — and uprated, from 390 kW to 405 kW — version of its Competition sibling’s 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged inline-six. The CS model’s peak torque output (650 N.m) matches that of the latter car; however, the CS’s full complement of twisting force is available in a broader swath of the rev band. Power is sent to all four corners via the German marque’s eight-speed M Steptronic transmission.
The Bavarian brand claims the M4 CS dispatches the 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.4 seconds, one-tenth of a second quicker than the standard all-paw M4 Competition, before topping out at an electronically governed 302 km/h, thanks to the inclusion of the M Driver’s Package as standard.
