Volvo SA Announces Free Public Charging Deal with New EV Purchases

Volvo South Africa is upping the ante for EV ownership with a compelling new package aimed at simplifying the transition to zero-emissions driving.

Recognising the growing appetite for EVs in South Africa, Volvo is offering a comprehensive bundle that addresses some of the key concerns of potential buyers. The headline offer is two years of free public charging valued at R12 000. This voucher, linked to the GridCars charging network, provides a substantial boost for drivers looking to utilise the expanding public charging infrastructure. Volvo Car South Africa’s Head of Commercial, Markus Cromwell, highlighted the strong sales of EVs in 2024 and expressed confidence that this offer will further fuel demand.

Beyond public charging, Volvo is also smoothing the transition to home charging. The company is providing an installation allowance of R7 500 towards a GridCars wall box. This is a crucial element, as home charging offers convenience and faster replenishment compared to standard plugs. The included wall box also comes with a two-year warranty covering both parts and installation.

Connectivity is another key aspect of the offer. The company is including a Wi-Fi dongle with 10 GB of Vodacom data per month for three years. This ensures access to the car’s built-in Google services, including Google Maps for navigation and YouTube for in-car entertainment.

The Swedish marque’s current electric vehicle line-up in South Africa includes the popular EX30, XC40 Recharge and the C40 Recharge, catering to a range of needs and budgets. The EX30, positioned as one of the more affordable EVs on the market, boasts a range of up to 476 km and a 0-100km/h acceleration time of just 3.6 seconds in Twin Motor Performance guise. The company has also confirmed that its flagship EX90, touted as its safest car yet, will soon be joining the range.
