Denza, essentially the luxury arm of BYD, is en route to South Africa. However, when we reported that this Chinese brand is heading to our shores, the local lineup was still unconfirmed. Yet, with our market’s appetite for adventure SUVs, and reports suggesting the firm’s B5 is set to launch in Australia, a market that largely mirrors ours, we recently questioned: will the Denza B5 come to South Africa?

We can now confirm that the Shenzhen-based automaker’s Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Land Rover Defender rival is, indeed, on its way to South Africa.

Denza B5 SA Launch Date

The Denza B5 will launch in South Africa early in 2026. Local pricing and specifications remain unconfirmed, though we expect the former and latter to be announced closer to its arrival in our market.

The B5 is mechanically related to BYD’s (321 kW/650 N.m) Shark 6 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) bakkie, which we sampled in June 2025. However, for the B5, the firm has upped the ante; handing the ladder-frame SUV’s dual electric motor-equipped 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbopetrol powertrain an injection of power and torque – to a healthy 505 kW and 760 N.m.

Slightly smaller than its Japanese and British rivals, the B5 measures 4 890 mm in length, 1 970 mm wide, and 2 800 mm between the fore and aft axles. The ground clearance is quoted at 220 mm, but can be increased by 90 mm thanks to an adjustable hydraulic suspension arrangement. The B5 sports 35-degree approach and 32-degree departure angles, and a water-fording depth of 700 mm.
