Geely SA launches new flagship E5: price and specs

Following the launch of the Geely E2, which tops the list of most affordable EVs in SA, in April 2026, the Chinese automaker has expanded its E5 portfolio with the introduction of a new flagship variant, the Apex Plus. The Apex Plus is equipped with the same electric motor as its E5 stablemates. The front-mounted unit produces 160 kW and 320 N.m of torque. However, compared to its Aspire and Apex siblings, the new range-topper pairs the e-motor with a larger lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery – 68.4 vs 60.8 kWh. The E5 Apex Plus’ 68.4 kWh LFP unit serves up a claimed operating range of 450 km; in increase of 20 km over the Aspire and 40 km over the Apex. Geely claims a 10-100% 11 kW AC charge takes seven hours, while a 30-80% 100 kW DC fast charge takes 20 minutes.

The E5 Apex Plus completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.6 seconds; 0.7 seconds slower than the Aspire and 0.5 seconds slower than the Apex, respectively. Top speed across the range is rated at 175 km/h.

Standard specification includes a 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, 10.2-inch digital instrumentation, a wireless smartphone charging pad, USB-A and -C ports, keyless entry and start, voice control, partial leather seats, electric adjustment for the front pews, and a panoramic sunroof. The E5 Apex Plus also features a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

The Geely E5 Apex Plus is priced from R788 888; making it R88 889 and R28 889 more expensive than the Aspire and Apex variants, respectively. As standard, pricing includes a six-year/120 000 km service plan, six-year/150 000 km vehicle warranty, and an eight-year/200 000 km battery warranty. All models include a wallbox home charger, an emergency charging cable and a R12 000 charging voucher when financed through Geely finance.
