Safety recalls issued for Nissan, Toyota and Lexus models

Nissan and Toyota have issued safety recalls for the Qashqai, Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus 300. We detail the models affected and the reason for the recall.

The local arms of Japanese automakers Nissan, Toyota and Lexus have issued safety recalls. The National Consumer Commission (NCC) says the affected vehicles are the Nissan Qashqai, Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX600.

Nissan Qashqai recall in SA

  • Model affected: Qashqai, built between 4 May 2021 and 17 September 2024
  • Reason for safety recall: Fuel pipe movement in engine bay
  • Number of units affected in South Africa: 314 (part of 1 688 from 23 October 2025)

Nissan says that, in the engine bay, the fuel pipe in its retaining clip could possibly move when the engine is operating. This could lead to wear on the fuel pipe and, in more serious cases, a hole could form, leading to a fuel leak.

Toyota Land Cruiser 300 recall in SA

  • Model affected: Land Cruiser 300, sold between 13 December 2022 and 7 May 2024
  • Reason for safety recall: Manufacturing machine debris in crankshaft bearings
  • Number of units affected in South Africa: 507

Toyota says the Land Cruiser 300 and its mechanically related sibling, the Lexus LX600, have debris in the V35A engine. At a specific time in production, the company noted not all machining debris may have been removed from the engine assembly. The debris is found specifically in the crankshaft main bearings. So, if it sticks to the bearings, they may fail over time. This could result in engine knocking, difficulty in starting the engine, or stalling.

Lexus LX600 recall in Botswana and Namibia

  • Model affected: LX600, built between 15 December 2022 and 7 May 2024
  • Reason for safety recall: Manufacturing machine debris in crankshaft bearings
  • Number of units affected in Botswana and Namibia: 124

The Lexus LX600 is being recalled for the same reason as the Land Cruiser 300. However, it only relates to models sold in Botswana and Namibia.

Customers owning the affected vehicles are urged to visit their nearest authorised Nissan or Toyota dealerships for inspections and necessary repairs, carried out at no cost.

Toyota South Africa Motors has handed the Starlet and Starlet Cross a round of safety updates, while introducing a new service plan to these hatchback and compact-crossover packages.
