Following the global debut of the updated Mercedes-AMG GLS 63, Mercedes-Benz has revealed the refreshed Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680. The thoroughly updated model boasts revised exterior styling, a revamped cabin, and a more powerful V8 powertrain.
The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 employs the same (M177 EVO) 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 as the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63. The M177 EVO unit produces 450 kW and 850 N.m of torque – the latter available from 2 500-4 500 r/min. The powerplant incorporates 48 V mild-hybrid tech, which provides a 17 kW and 205 N.m boost for short durations. Power is delivered to the road via the German marque’s 4Matic+ all-wheel drivetrain, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission.
In addition to revised steering, the flagship Mercedes-Maybach SUV features the Three-pointed Star brand’s Airmatic air suspension setup as standard. The automaker’s E-Active Body Control system is available as an option. The latter actively controls spring and damper forces to counteract roll, pitch, and lift.
The revised front fascia features an illuminated Mercedes-Benz star, ‘Maybach’ lettering, and front grille surround. The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 rides on a set of 22-inch alloy wheels, with 23-inch items featuring floating centre caps available as an option.
Inside, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 is equipped with its maker’s MBUX Superscreen, which comprises a trio of digital displays running on the firm’s latest software. The cabin features rose gold dials, illuminated air vents, massage functionality for all three rows of seat, and a 15-speaker Burmester 3D surround sound system.
