New Mitsubishi Pajero global reveal date set for September 2026

Mitsubishi has announced when the new Pajero will make its official global debut. Here’s when the veil will be lifted off the Japanese automaker’s Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and Ford Everest rival.

Officially confirmed in June 2026, the ‘Pajero’ nameplate is set to make its return. Following the release of several teasers, including an image showcasing new off-road gauges, Mitsubishi has now confirmed when the next-generation Pajero will be unveiled.

Mitsubishi has largely remained tight-lipped surrounding technical details of its Ford Everest and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado rival. However, we do know the new Pajero is based on the same ladder-frame platform underpinning the Triton bakkie. The Pajero will adopt model-specific suspension.

Mitsubishi has confirmed via social media that the new Pajero will be revealed on 2 September 2026.

The firm has yet to confirm powertrain options. However, we expect the Pajero to employ Mitsubishi’s new 2.4-litre twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine, which produces 150 kW and 470 N.m of torque. As a reminder, the latter oil-burner was introduced to the local Triton lineup in July 2026 with the more powerful Triton Bi-Turbo. There’s no doubt that power will be delivered to the road via all four wheels – likely through the company’s Super Select II four-wheel-drive setup, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In addition to the upcoming flagship, reports have suggested Mitsubishi is set to expand the box-fresh Pajero lineup with the introduction of a new midsize SUV to rival the likes of the Toyota RAV4, which we’ve sampled in GR-Sport format. It is also rumoured that the new Pajero will spawn a Suzuki Jimny rival.

Mitsubishi’s local arm has yet to confirm whether the new Pajero will make its way to our market. However, the manufacturer will likely announce the latter following the official global unveiling.

We have rounded up the top ten most dependable car brands based on a recent study by J.D. Power, ranking vehicle reliability based on the number of problems per 100 vehicles. Power has recently released its 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study, which identifies the most dependable vehicles based on overall problems per 100 vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership over nine problem categories. The 2026 results show a two-point increase in problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), resulting in an industry average of 204 PP100. In other words, A score of 204 PP100 means that, on average, owners reported 2.04 issues per car. A lower score indicates better vehicle quality, and vice versa.
