Audi South Africa has officially confirmed it will introduce the Q7 (including the Audi Sport SQ5) and Q9 model lines to its local catalogue in 2027. These models follow the recently introduced new-generation Q5 SUV, which is now available in South Africa. The German brand’s previous-generation Q7 and SQ7 are still available to configure and order. These two models are still in production at Volkswagen’s Indian and Malaysian plants. The third-generation Q7 has already been introduced to key global markets, as production begins at the Bratislava, Slovakia plant.
Major refinements made to the new-generation Q7

The third-generation 2027 Audi Q7 introduces a complete redesign built on the premium combustion platform. The updated exterior displays sharp body lines, a broader Singleframe radiator grille, and digital Matrix LED headlights featuring micro-LED modules. Power comes from a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine producing 320 kW and 600 N.m of torque. Audi equips every variant with permanent quattro all-wheel drive. Joining this is an eight-speed automatic transmission, and adaptive air suspension. The performance-oriented SQ7 variant retains a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 generating 441 kW.
The Audi Q7’s interior transitions to a modernised digital cabin architecture. The cabin features a curved panoramic display housing an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster alongside a 14.5-inch MMI infotainment touchscreen. A dedicated 12.3-inch display is also available for the front passenger. Practicality remains central to the layout, with seven seats standard and optional second-row captain’s chairs that convert the vehicle into a six-seater. Tech upgrades include dual wireless charging pads, a 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen 4D audio setup, and a host of advanced driver assistance systems.
Audi’s new large flagship SUV offering

The Audi Q9 is positioned as the German brand’s new flagship SUV. The full-size, three-row luxury SUV competes directly against rivals such as the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS. Audi builds this model an extended version of the premium combustion platform. The chassis spans 5 310 mm in length, delivering expanded interior dimensions and third-row legroom. Power comes from a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine yielding 320 kW and 600 N.m of torque in standard configurations. The range-topping SQ9 variant utilises a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing up to 441 kW. All iterations come standard with permanent quattro all-wheel drive, an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, and adaptive air suspension.
The Audi Q9’s interior optimises space, offering configurable six- or seven-passenger seating layouts with power-adjustable rows. Cabin technology matches current flagship standards. The Q9 features a digital interface with an 11.9-inch instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch central MMI touch display, and an independent 12.3-inch screen for the front passenger. Premium amenities include five-zone automatic climate control, soft-close power doors, a panoramic glass roof, and an optional 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen 4D sound system incorporating seat-integrated speakers. Exterior lighting incorporates digital Matrix LED headlights and curved digital OLED taillights capable of displaying projection symbols.
A new-generation Audi Q8 is coming in 2028
Eight years after its official global market introduction, the Audi Q8 is finally getting a second-generation model set to arrive sometime in 2028. Audi’s dynamic option is essentially a crossover coupe variant of the Q7, so expect most of its design cues and drivetrains to carry over. Beyond a planned introduction date, there isn’t much information about the highly anticipated new generation.
