New Tesla Roadster revealed with SpaceX technology

Tesla has unveiled the production specifications for its redesigned Roadster. The new sports EV is said to redefine performance standards through aerospace technology and mechanical engineering.

After years of delays, the Tesla Roadster concept has reappeared with an all-new design language and specifications. The American EV company’s flagship model now incorporates angular design panels inspired by the Cybertruck’s controversial aesthetic. It also features innovations from SpaceX, as the premise leans into aerospace. This is a ground-up redesign that does not inherit a single component from the previous Roadster concept.

Tesla Roadster: angular cyberpunk design and aerodynamics

Engineers integrated minimalist design principles to eliminate unnecessary weight and maximise aerodynamic efficiency. The exterior features hidden LED headlamps, with flush-mounted body panels reducing drag. Tesla also applied titanium accents, complementing Ano White paint, which protects the chassis against thermal degradation while maintaining structural integrity. The new Roadster is built on a pushrod-style suspension and incorporates magnesium, carbon fibre, and titanium. The flush panels make the sports EV look like a coupĂ©. However, the roof is removable, though this isn’t shown in press images.

Tesla’s engineering teams incorporated active aerodynamics into the chassis. A multi-mode fan system pulls air from underneath the car to generate massive downforce. This suction technology even operates while the vehicle is stationary. Active wings adjust automatically to optimise traction across different driving conditions. Track mode lowers the suspension to shift the centre of gravity during high-speed cornering. The Roadster also adopts a specific tint for the glass, which mimics the copper coating applied to space suits.

Tesla Roadster interior: driver-focused design and technology

Cabin architecture relies on first-principles engineering to prioritise the driver. Tesla removed adjustable seat mechanisms in favour of a fixed seating position. This layout reduces mass while centralising the driver within the cockpit. A yoke steering wheel connects to a steer-by-wire system. This technology delivers direct road feedback and eliminates mechanical steering columns. The interior layout centres on a large primary display supplemented by dual forward screens that present vital telemetry data. Tesla also adds two smaller forward digital displays alongside the central touchscreen. The brand’s Ultrawhite interior colour theme introduces grey microsuede bolsters to maximise seat grip.

Tesla Roadster performance: power output remains under wraps

The vehicle architecture supports three distinct trim configurations. The base road-ready model accommodates two passengers and utilises standard active aerodynamics. The Thrust upgrade adds rear cold-gas thrusters that propel the vehicle from 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in under one second (claimed), with a one-foot rollout. Tesla is quiet about performance specifications. Media who attended the event said the Roadster Rocket’s display unit showed a 1 500 hp (1 103 kW) figure on the digital instrument cluster.

Tesla revealed the Roadster with two unique trims…for now. This includes the limited-release Thrust model, which will essentially be the launch edition with specific design cues. The Rocket is an invite-only spec that features a single-seater cabin layout and additional cold-gas thrusters drivers can use to launch the car into the air (watch the video below). Tesla confirms that these advanced thruster components remain restricted from public road use.

Tesla Roadster launch date and reservations

Market analysts expect production to commence next year. Reservation holders of the previous Roadster concept secure priority build slots through the manufacturer portal. Pricing will vary depending on selected augment packages. Tesla plans to deliver the first units to reservation holders sometime in 2028.
