South African motorists are already feeling the effects of the October 2026 fuel price hike. So, the Central Energy Fund (CEF) predicting that the price of petrol and diesel could rise even further will require South Africans to dig even deeper into their pockets next month. The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) will announce the official fuel prices closer to Wednesday, 4 November 2026.

According to the CEF, the price of petrol could increase by R2.26 per litre for 93 ULP/LRP and R2.27 per litre for 95 ULP/LRP. Diesel prices could rise by R1.37 and R1.46 per litre for 0.05% sulphur (500ppm) and 0.005% sulphur (50ppm), respectively. If the CEF’s predictions are correct, this is what you can expect to pay for fuel next month…

The oil price at the time of writing is $95 per barrel, which has risen since our last report. Fuel prices rising has a snowball effect on transport and food costs, with some South Africans now having to choose between groceries and fuel, affecting their livelihoods and work. It will likely also impact travel decisions during the festive season, potentially lowering much needed tourism income. Consequently, in a bid to make the government cut the General Fuel Levy (GFL) and lower petrol prices, a group called Concerned Citizens of South Africa is advocating for a national shutdown on 19 October.
