General Insurance has restored an iconic prop from the Street Fighter II bonus stage. The process transforms a 35-year-old digital punching bag into a fully functional, road-legal model up for grabs via a national sweepstakes. The real-world build models the first-generation (XF10) Lexus LS 400. This Japanese luxury saloon inspired Capcom’s original 1991 arcade graphic. Underneath the custom pixelated exterior sits Toyota’s 1UZ-FE naturally aspirated 4.0-litre DOHC V8, developing 191 kW at 5 400 r/min and 353 N.m of torque at 4 600 r/min. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. The LS 400 and its 1UZ maintains a bulletproof reputation for mechanical reliability.

Hollywood car builder Dennis McCarthy and his team at Vehicle Effects executed the complete restoration to celebrate the Street Fighter feature film, which was released on 16 October 2026. McCarthy, renowned for constructing vehicles for the Fast & Furious franchise, recreated the vehicle’s pixelated 16-bit arcade aesthetics. The cabin features custom pixel-patterned upholstery, new leather seats, and upgraded audio speakers. A functional coin-slot change holder doubles as an integrated seat warmer.

The General Insurance offers US enthusiasts a direct chance to win this restored Japanese saloon. The sweepstakes runs through 18 November 2026. One grand prize winner receives the pixelated Lexus LS 400 alongside a cash award of $25 400.69 (approximately R422 000). This brings the total prize package valuation to $69 716 (around R1 150 000). The competition connects directly with the promotional campaign for the Street Fighter feature film, highlighting the theme of giving worn-out vehicles a second life.

The Lexus LS 400’s iconic cameo in Street Fighter II

A car-smashing sequence appears as the first interactive bonus stage in Street Fighter II, positioned directly between regular tournament fights. Players receive a 40-second time limit to completely wreck the parked sedan using basic physical strikes and special character moves. Success depends on striking both sides systematically, forcing the bodywork to crumple, doors to pop off, and the roof to collapse. Destroying the vehicle completely yields a maximum score bonus of 30 000 points, rewarding players who maximise their damage per second. The game developers modelled the digital target on the XF10 Lexus LS 400. Doing so has made the luxury sedan an iconic visual staple of arcade history.
