Reports coming from the US have all but confirmed the return of the Ford Bronco Pickup. The Blue Oval brand has indicated that the new model will form part of its greater “icons” model strategy. Ford told Automotive News, “We are doubling down on what we do best: trucks, iconic passion products, Ford Pro, and breakthrough technology that you will soon see on our forthcoming EV platform.”
The Michigan-based factory where the current Bronco is assembled is reportedly the facility where the Bronco-based bakkie will be produced. This manufacturing line is also where the US-market Ranger bakkie is built. If you weren’t aware, both models are underpinned by Ford’s T6 platform. The first concept of a new Bronco pickup was the Roadster Concept, which was revealed in 2025, However, this concept never made it to production.
The US-based automaker could also share manufacturing capabilities with its existing Maverick production line, which is currently based in Mexico. According to reports from Ford Authority, this may be localised depending on the outcome of current US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) trade talks. This would give the company yet another option for the development of the Bronco Pickup.
While further details remain thin on the ground, the Bronco Pickup will likely employ variations of the powertrains currently on offer in the Bronco SUV. The latter includes the 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit found in the Ranger 2.3T EcoBoost, 2.7-litre twin-turbocharged V6 found in higher-spec Broncos, and a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 producing 312 kW and 597 N.m of torque.
Other related news pertains to the firm’s new all-electric bakkie, dubbed Fathom, which may also share technology with the Bronco Pickup. The Fathom utilises Ford’s Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) architecture and is set to be priced from $29 945, or around R482 000 at the current Rand-Dollar exchange rate.
No word on official dimensions, powertrains, or price has been confirmed yet, but Ford’s Bronco Pickup revival is expected to reach the market come the end of the decade.
