Top 5 Best Selling Bakkies – June 2024

The Hilux retains its throne despite tricky market conditions that have seen the local industry experience a state of decline since August 2023. Here are the best-selling bakkies from June.

Challenging market conditions was a sure way that naamsa described the past several months of the domestic new vehicle market. Things are looking promising in the near future but sales in June 2024 still dropped to 40 072 units, a significant decrease of 6 531 units (14%) from June 2023. Overall, out of the total reported industry sales, an estimated 33 039 units, or 82.5%, represented dealer sales, an estimated 11.0% represented sales to the vehicle rental industry, 3.6% to government, and 2.9% to industry corporate fleets.

Light commercial vehicles, including bakkies and mini-buses, recorded a decrease of 3 385 units (24.3%) compared to the previous year. Medium and heavy truck sales also dropped, with 531 units and 2 061 units sold respectively, representing significant declines.

  1. Toyota Hilux – 2 435 units
  2. Ford Ranger – 1 868 units
  3. Isuzu D-Max – 1 794 units
  4. Mahindra Scorpio Pik-Up – 829 units 
  5. Nissan Navara – 505 units

The Hilux, Ranger and D-Max have retained their respective positions for June however Nissan has rejoined the top 5 list with the addition of the Navara bakkie, which has pipped the last NP200 models in circulation, as well as Amarok and Landcruiser models.
